What's New in V7

New Features

  •    12th February 2011: Some minor cosmetic enhancements.

  • 11th January 2010 - Astro22 V7.5.22 : The Daylight Saving Database has been updated to include all known changes up to the year 2010 - And beyond for those Countries working to a fixed formula i.e. Last Sunday March to Last Sunday October.

  •  1st February 2010 Astro22 V7.5.01: A new graphic screen has been added to the program for those interested in relationships and compatibility issues.  Main menu/Progression/Compatibility Chart. Click on the picture to view enlarged.

  •  Vista Version Released 22 Jan 2007 - Astro22 V7.2: The program may be used with all versions of windows from Windows 98 to the new Microsoft Vista releases X32 and X64.

  • Swiss Ephemeris: Astro22 V7 uses the Swiss Ephemeris calculation routines. This change makes possible the introduction of the main group of asteroids - also most of the hypothetical bodies that are of current interest. All graphic screens and calculation routines within the program have been updated to accommodate these asteroids. The ephemeris gives precision of calculation to less than 1 Second of arc. The commercial CD version of Astro22 V7 contains the full extended ephemeris covering 10,000 years. The Swiss Ephemeris is a special version of The full NASA JPL Ephemeris This is the full precision state-of-the-art ephemeris. It provides the highest precision and is the basis of the Astronomical Almanac. JPL is the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA in Pasadena, CA, USA (see http://www.jpl.nasa.gov ). Since many years this institute which is in charge of the planetary missions of NASA has been the source of the highest precision planetary ephemerides. The currently newest version of JPL ephemeris is the DE405/DE406.

  • Central Picture Display: This will normally be a scanned photograph of the chart subject.  The average PC user is now adept at scanning pictures and photos into his/her machine and manipulating them in graphic software. This routine is dedicated to displaying and printing such pictures in its centre graphic displays. We believe that Astro22 V7 is the only astrology program to have this feature.

A glass framed presentation chart using this routine makes a fantastic, something different present, it will adorn any wall.

  •  Relocation\Location Charts: In practice it is normal to cast many charts until the correct location is found, however once a chart is calculated with astro22 you may use the keyboard left and right arrow keys to animate the chart West (Left arrow key) or East (Right arrow key) covering the complete Earth in just a few minutes. An experienced astrologer will be able to find a likely location very quickly - 2 to 5 minutes.

  • Graphic Displays: With the inclusion of the Swiss ephemeris It became necessary to update all graphic displays in order to incorporate the new asteroids and hypothetical bodies. This proved to be a valuable exercise because along the way many  enhancements were made to the graphic display routines. Three new true type fonts are now used to display the graphic astrological symbols. These  have been incorporated into graphic displays to give even more versatility and variety for user choice. Just one example - the zodiac sector of the chart wheels may now be easily configured in any one of 24 different ways.

  • Picture Glyphs This routine was added to the program in March 2005.

  • The chart wheel Zodiac Section may also be expanded as shown below:

  • Graphic Display Wheels: A new wheel design that gives emphasis to the chart's central aspect display has been designed for use with astro22 V7. Also, because of the enlarged wheel centre it is useful for displaying the custom picture graphics described previously. The Graphic below shows the new Aspect Wheel.

  • Print Preview: Astro22 V7 has so many combinations of graphic features that a print preview routine is now a necessity. It prevents the frustration of re-prints and at times the avoidable cost of photo paper and color ink. All presentation charts may be previewed including the cover pages for the character and compatibility profiles and also the top active window. An example is shown below:

  • Asteroids and Hypothetical Bodies: These may be selected from the Edit>Asteroids menu. The Asteroid Setup Screen allows any of the asteroids or other bodies to be made active in subsequent screen displays - similar to the main planetary setup screen. The user may select one, two, three or indeed all the listed bodies.

  • Planetary Setup Screen: The new look user set-up screen now allows more flexibility with the  Min Orb Setting. The Min Orb applies to progressed and transiting aspects, or other routines that compare aspects to the natal chart. The user may fine tune the orb to any required factor. It is advantageous, at times, to have the major aspects set to 2 degrees of Min Orb to enable a wider perspective of events. The Asteroid Setup Screen may also be called from this dialogue.

  • Zodiac Systems: Any one of the following zodiac coordinate systems may be selected. Note: The Bergian 13 Sign Zodiac may be used with any selected system.

  • House Cusp Systems: The graphic below shows the house systems that may be selected in Astro22 V7

  • Aspect Listings: This new menu group mirrors the options given for Grid and Graphic displays but in the form of textual listings. The default setting uses graphic astrological characters in the listings but an option is provided for plain text.

  • Apply Shadow Effects: This new option turns On/Off shadowing for zodiac glyphs, planetary glyphs and screen text. Although the vast majority of chart and printer displays benefit by having a slight shadowing of text and graphics some users prefer to have limited or no shadowing in their displays.

  • Planetary Glyphs: With this option a user may choose a font suitable for his/her presentation. Three types of astrological fonts are supplied with the program: Bold, Medium and Light. Note: The chosen font is also applied to text screens that use astrological symbols, the zodiac section of the chart wheel is not affected.

  • The three forms of glyph are shown below:

  • New Text Files For Progressed Charts: New dedicated text files are used for the Progressed Search Routines. These  files  are based largely on the Alan Leo texts. In the progressed systems often the minor aspects are of great significance, especially the Sesquiqadrate aspect that usually brings a short but very traumatic event. Complete text files are included for nine aspect types - from the Conjunction to the Sesquiqadrate aspects. The text files are user editable.

  • Solar and Lunar Returns Animation:

Solar Returns

Pressing the keyboard arrow keys or the directional arrows from the toolbar calculates the next Solar Return Chart. For example, if the calculated Solar Return Chart is for the year 2001 then one press of the left-arrow key calculates a Solar Return Chart for 2002. Press again and the 2003 Solar Return is calculated and displayed, and so on.

Pressing the right-arrow calculates and displays a previous years Solar Return Chart. In the above example, the chart for the year 2000 is calculated and displayed.

Lunar Returns

The display may be animated similar to the Solar Return animation except that the left-arrow calculates the next Lunar Return some 28 days ahead. The left-arrow calculates the previous Lunar Return.

  • User Preferred Fonts: Two user fonts may now be selected, one for graphic screens; the other  for text screens and printer output.

  • Two sets of text files are now included in the program, one set containing American spelling, the other English UK spelling. If the USA date format is chosen then the text files with American spellings are used, otherwise the English UK text files are used.

  •  Presentation Charts: Below are the four types of presentation charts used in Astro22 V7:

    Top Active Window

Prints the most recently calculated window to the printer. It is usual to select Landscape mode on the printer when printing this type of chart.

    Full Data Presentation Chart

Selecting this option produces a full presentation chart that includes a detailed aspect grid, declinations and a planetary summary.

Portrait mode must be selected as the printer orientation.

    Large Wheel Presentation Chart

This option displays a much larger zodiac wheel. Graphic presentation of the Sun signs is also a feature. This is the better choice if you are using back screens.

Portrait mode must be selected as the printer orientation.

    Company Presentation Chart

This presentation chart is free of data fields. This allows for a company graphic to be used to maximum effect as a back screen. It also shows the company details in two centred lines near to the bottom of the chart.

Portrait mode must be selected as the printer orientation.

  • Progression Systems: The program includes 12 progression systems that envelop all the popular methods of progressing the natal chart for predictive application. This is about 80% cover regarding  known predictive systems and only a highly professional or experimental astrologer would need extra routines. However, to cover this area of need two further routines are included in Astro22 V7, both are user defined. We think that the addition will now cover some 95% of all systems.

User Progression - Days of Life/Factor

This option is perhaps the most powerful routine in the progression group: Its power lies in its ability to provide astrologers with a tool for experimentation.

Most progressed systems use established planetary cycles to calculate progressed horoscopes Secondary Progression uses the solar cycle of 365.24219907, the Tertiary routine uses the moons lunar month cycle of 27.32158648147 and so on. The factor entered for this routine will normally be based on such cycles.

    The method of calculation is:

If Secondary Progression: Days Alive divided by 365.2419907': If Tertiary then Days Alive divided by 27.32158648147

Many such cycles exist and not much has been done in this area of astrology to find the Definite predictive cycle.

This option is not the end of the matter, a dedicated  Search routine is included in the Search Menu routines with the new factor active. This allows for historical research over any time period.

Add 'Deg Min Sec' To Planets of Resident Chart

This option is for use by advanced astrologers who calculate their own values of arc in various systems out of the norm. As an example, it is very easy using an ephemeris to establish a progressed arc of any planet or point, let us say the progressed arc of the vertex. The orb calculation is just a matter of simple calculation, however the hard part is adding this arc value to all the planets and points and if required, the house cusps - It is a very time consuming and laborious exercise.

This routine makes the task simple, the astrologer need only enter the arc obtained into the prompt box and in less than a second the job is done.

If cusps are to be included in the calculations then the typed string is suffixed with a C as so: 123 10 15C

If the Converse Progression option is On then the arch will be deducted from the resident chart planets - This often brings surprising results.

  • Search Routines Merge Option: This option allows several searches to be brought together and sorted into date order. As an example you may wish do a yearly Progressed search, a Transit search and then a Solar Arch search for the same period.

In this example you would open the merge file by clicking the menu option, run each of the search routines then close the merge file by clicking the menu option once again. The program then opens a new text window and presents all the search results merged into one file and sorted into date order.

  • Screen Animation: Although this was a feature in V6 it is worth repeating here for those not familiar our program.
With the the advent of more powerful computers our program is now coming into its own as most of the graphic screens throughout the program can be animated to a predefined time interval.

A graphic handing routine has been developed to provide smoother animation of screens. The windows handing routine has also been updated to accommodate the animation of screens. The program recognizes that an animation is in progress and switches mode to confine the animation to a single window. This keeps widows generation within bounds. The animation is controlled with the keyboard arrow keys.

  •  Previous users of Astro22 will notice many, many more improvements to the program.
